INSDIE POLO with Ron Allen
It’s Final 4 Wednesday in sunny Florida and four 20-goal teams faced off to advance to Sunday’s finals in the Ylvisaker Cup.
In the opener Lucchese jumped out to a 5 to 2 lead by the second chukker against Audi. Nic Roldan (8) came to life in the third helping Audi to catch Lucchese at 5 all in the third period.
In the second half both teams were trading goals until Roldan scored on an amazing nearside cut shot to give Audi its first lead of the game at 10 to 9. Later, it was Nico Pieres (8) on a breakaway 150 yard run to goal after a perfect pass from Roldan. That made the score 12-10 in favor of Audi. They continued to control the rest of the game and went on to win 17 to 12.
The second semi was Coca-Cola vs. Lechuza with patron Victor Vargas (1) being replaced by young Emanuel Villamil (1). Lechuza powered a quick 4 to 1 lead against Coca-Cola.
By half time Lechuza was up 7 to 4 thanks to great runs on goal by Polito Pieres (8). Coke was on the comeback trail in the 4th as they tied the game at 7 all. Gillian Johnston (1) put her team ahead for the first time in the game on a nice goal in the fourth. A penalty shot for Pieres in the 5th tied the game at 10 to 10. The turning point was Julio Arellano (9) who intercepted a penalty shot and made a 275-yard solo run to goal on three shots to put Coke back on top 11 to 10. They went on to win by a comfortable 15 to 11 margin.
The Sunday Ylvisaker Cup finals will see Audi go against Coke-Cola for the 2013 trophy.
